Yesterday was the one year anniversary of quitting my job and opening my firm. I celebrated with friends, wine, and cupcakes. I’ve found myself reflecting the past few days about what the last year has meant and what the future holds for me.
I knew operating my own business would be hard, but I didn’t realize how hard. Jon Acuff did a post ‘5 Shocks I Got When I Became An Entrepreneur’ and he nailed it.
There’s never enough time in the day for business development, marketing, client work, and administrative tasks. There’s always something that can be done. It’s hard to turn the brain off. Time management and the ability to say ‘no’ has become crucial. That said, I’ve been given several opportunities to work with people who are doing big things. I wouldn’t have been able to be a part of those opportunities had I not stepped out on my own.
So, would I do it all over again? Absolutely. I’m happier now in my professional career than I ever have been and I’m excited to see what the next year brings.
